- Prevent frozen pipes by insulating water lines in areas such as basements, garages, and attics.
- Keep your thermostat set to a consistent temperature, at a minimum of at least 55°F.
- Run water through the pipes throughout the day.
- Open cabinets underneath your sinks to let warm air reach the pipes.
Heating
- Have your heating system inspected and maintained so that it is working properly during the winter season.
- Stock up on supplies you may need in the case of an emergency, such as matches, fuel, lighters, nonperishables, water, candles, first aid kit, etc.
- Set up your generator for backup incase you lose power.
Roof
- Contact a roofer to repair any worn out or weakened areas to prevent further leaks or damages.
- Remove any overhanging or weakened branches near your roof that can break and damage your home.
- If you have an ice dam prevention system, make sure to activate it before it starts to snow.
