Kickoff to 3rd Annual Volunteer Week- Empties for Animals
Northeastern Insurance is proud and excited to have commenced our Third Annual Volunteer Week this July. Our Volunteer Week is being held from July 21st to 25th, during which our team is volunteering with 5 different organizations in our local community. This is a tradition we’re extremely excited to continue each year, as it brings together communities, people, and our own team. For the first day, eight of our agents volunteered at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society with their Empties for Animals Program. Our team members included: Joseph Venezio, Matthew Sgambelluri, Connor Lind, Cassidy McLaughlin, Hannah Braun, Michael Felitte, Amanda Fernandez, and Mackenzie Harley.
About the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society:
Founded in 1887, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) is the oldest and largest animal protection organization in the Capital Region. Providing shelter and care for stray, abused and unwanted animals is all part of what this organization is about. In addition, the programs include spay/neuter and wellness services, vaccination and microchip clinics, stray housing for municipalities, and more.
Our Volunteer Work with Empties for Animals:
The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society runs a program called Empties for Animals, a bottle and can recycling initiative where community members can donate their empties to support local animals. By sorting the containers by brand, type, and size, the Humane Society can redeem each item for 8 cents instead of the usual 5 cents. In 2024, this effort raised an impressive $148,614- all going directly toward helping animals in need. Our team of agents got right to work, sorting through thousands of donated bottles and cans before loading them up for delivery. Once the team’s work was completed- they received a full tour of the facility to see exactly how and where the funds will be used.

Previous Volunteer Work:
In the previous year volunteering at MHHS in 2024, four of our agents had the opportunity to participate in the same Empties for Animals program as well. Our agents completed similar work sorting through donated bottles and cans to be exchanged for donation funds for the animals.
Impact on Our Team:
Volunteering at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society continues to be a meaningful experience for our team. “It’s rewarding to know that just a few hours of our time can help make a real difference for animals in need,” said Account Manager Mackenzie Harley when asked about her experience supporting the organization. We are proud to be able to give back to such a great organization and support their efforts in our community.
