Meals for the Salvation Army- Volunteer Week Day 4!
For the fourth day of our 3rd Annual Volunteer Week, our team had the chance to volunteer for the Salvation Army of Albany. Our group of four included Sarah Audi, Benjamin Daniels, Olivia Martuscello, and Mia Aquino. Our team had the opportunity to prepare and package meals that were being served throughout Albany on their mobile canteen van.
About The Salvation Army:
The Salvation Army started in 1865, serving local communities while still staying dedicated to serving our neighbors in need. The organization offers a wide variety of programs and campaigns to help cure hunger, combat addiction, help disaster survivors and more. The local branch is headquartered at 20 S Ferry St. Albany, NY 12202.
Our Volunteer Work- Prepping Free Meals for the Community:
This year at The Salvation Army our team had the opportunity to prepare chicken salad wraps, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fruit salad, and corn salad. After preparing and packaging over 150 meals, our team assisted with loading up the mobile canteen food truck that went around the city of Albany to serve the meals to adults, kids, and seniors.
Previous Volunteer Work:
In the previous year our team participated in a similar program, preparing meals to be delivered to the children at Giffen Elementary School. Our employees prepared over 100 hot dog meals with ice cream and sweet tea. The team drove in the Food Truck to deliver all the prepared meals to the students at the elementary school before the students headed home for the day. Additionally at the beginning of this year, Northeastern Insurance was able to donate $1,500 to the Salvation Army of Albany. Our agency was awarded the Main Street America Insurance Community Impact Award. To be considered for the award, nominees must participate in initiatives, projects or programs that positively impact their community. Northeastern Insurance was 1 of 3 agencies nationwide to be selected, and as a winner received the $1,500 donation to provide to a local charity of our choice.
Impact on Our Team:
Volunteering at The Salvation Army to help prepare meals to be served was a rewarding experience for our team knowing we were helping people in the city of Albany. “Preparing meals at the Salvation Army today was a powerful reminder that even small acts of service can make a meaningful difference,” said Commercial Account Manager Benjamin Daniels. “I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to give back in a hands-on way and help support families in our community.”
