Ronald McDonald House - Day 4

For the 4th day of our Volunteer Week, we had two groups of team members volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region. On Thursday, June 22nd we had two shifts of groups go to the House where they cooked a delicious dinner and desserts for the families currently residing at the House.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region is a nonprofit organization, with a location right here in Albany, New York. The local organization offers housing to families with children who have serious medical illnesses. There are numerous comfortable, fully furnished rooms with handicap accessibilities, as well as home-cooked meals provided for the families to enjoy. The last thing these families need to worry about is being able to afford housing and food while seeking the best care for their child, so all of the services are provided free of charge to the families. The House acts as their home-away-from home to provide as much comfort as possible during a difficult time.

For dinner- we had Jared Lozier, Gina Litz, Cassidy McLaughlin and Devan Maxstadt prepare a full meal for the families currently staying at the house. Our team cooked Pulled BBQ Chicken Sandwiches with coleslaw, Roasted Potatoes, and parmesan-crusted green beans. For dessert- we had Liana Bucciero and Sarah Audi bake vanilla cupcakes and chocolate brownies for everyone to enjoy as a sweet treat. Both teams spent several hours preparing the food, and everything came out delicious!

Volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House had a huge impact on everyone. “Spending time at RMHC was truly fun & fulfilling! I know from experience, how wonderful it is to come back to the comfort of a home away from home. My heart is smiling, knowing I could give that back”, said Assistant Branch Manager Gina Litz.

Northeastern Insurance has worked with the Ronald McDonald House in the past as well. In Fall 2022, the agency organized a $15,000 donation to the House. We were able to award $10,000 on behalf of Safeco and Liberty Mutual, as our agency was a Make More Happen Award Winner. The agency then added an additional $5,000 donation, bringing the total amount to $15,000. In prior years we have also donated several electronics- a brand new Play Station 5, Xbox, 55” TV, & more to the Toy Room. We plan to continue our involvement with the Ronald McDonald House for many years to come.
