Volunteer Week- Day 3 in Latham!
For the 3rd day of our Volunteer Week, our team was able to visit the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. On Wednesday, June 21st, President Michael Venezio was accompanied by Samantha Quinn, Matthew Sgambelluri, Daphne Braun, and Bob Venezio to dedicate the afternoon volunteering right here in our office’s backyard in Latham.
The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York collects food donations, both non-perishable and perishable, to help feed more than 350,000 people each month. Additionally, the organization distributes more than 45 million pounds of food to approximately 900 charitable agencies throughout all of Northeastern New York. That’s almost 37.7 million meals!
When volunteering at the Regional Food Bank’s warehouse, our team was put straight to work! Our team’s job was to sort all of the donated beverages that had been received. The types of drinks included were water, sports drinks, nutritional drinks, juice/juice boxes, shelf-safe milk, seltzers, and other general beverages. They then had to check to make sure each expiration date, nutrition label, and seal were all intact. The beverages were then sorted into different boxes for each category. Once a box reached the 40-pound limit, it was packed up and moved to the section that was ready for distribution. While our team handled sorting the donated beverages, there were several other volunteers present during the shift to sort through the food items and complete a similar process.
The whole team had a great time volunteering and contributing to all of the Food Bank’s efforts. Especially with the Food Bank being located right here in Latham, it was even more important to give back to an organization so close in our own neighborhood. “It was a very rewarding experience being able to contribute to such a great cause in our community.
